Fort Pulaski in Savannah is located on the way to Tybee Island in a beautiful marsh setting. The Fort was built from 1829 to 1841 and was the site of a Civil War battle that lasted 30 hours with mortar round holes still present on the Fort's southeast wall. Here the Confederates surrendered to the Union army that used rifled cannons.
